general update mac mini
I know it seems as if all I can talk about lately is macZOT! and even though I do love their service I have been keeping busy with other things as well.
I decided it was time to purhase a new computer. Apple was able to introduce their updated line of intel iMac’s and MacBookPro’s early to consumers. As I had an iSight and Monitor; and still love my iBook G4 neither the iMac or MacBookPro suited my needs. However, some bloggers will recant as the worst Apple announcement ever as Steve Jobs introdued the updated mac mini and I instantly fell in love.
However some people were not impressed and their complaints consisted of two items:
- the mac mini wasn’t truly the media center they were expecting
- the new intel mini’s came with intel integrated graphics.
As I play games about three times a year the last point was moot in my decision making criteria. I weighed my options after some deliberation bought the new intel mini with my Apple Developer Connection discount.
So far the mini has been perfect. Small form factor, excellent power for my needs, dvd burner and the general coolness factor is exellent. I was left with one question, what to do with my old computer….
My old computer was a MDD Power Mac that was upgraded to the hilt. I upgraded the ram, hd, and even added a dvd burner. It was truly my first great computer. I’m not sure if the greatness could be attributed to the hardware or the operating system but its purchase was something I never regretted. The one thing that drove me crazy about it was the fan noise. It was unfortunately extremely common with that model.
I thought about listing the item on ebay and saw that they were going for around $600 – $700 bucks (almost the purchase price of my new mini) and then I was told of a company out of Tampa called Mac of All Trades. Their website had a contact form to fill out if you were interested in selling your computer. It wanted the computer specs and any upgrades that were performed on it. I filled it out on a Friday night and recieved a Purchase Order the following morning. I agreed to their acquisition of my computer and set up arrangements to ship it to them. They received my computer on a Thursay and by the following Monday I had my check from them. It was an amazing transaction and I wil certainly look to do business with them in the future.
As I said the mini has been perfect and impressive with its size and power, the one thing I neglected to do was increase the hard drive past the standard 80 gigs. After determining my music and photo collection was close to 30 gigs I went looking for an external hard drive solution and Other World Computing came to the rescue with their ministack v2.
In the next entry I’ll walk through the install and setup process and give my thoughts about the ministack v2. Unfortunately I have to head back to work as the lunch break is almost over.

macZOT!
I know second post in the matter of minutes but I really want to take the time to explain how much I enjoyed my first MysteryZOT and the whole macZOT process.
macZOT works with shareware developers to lower the registration fee and then passes the savings along to their site viewers. You don’t have to be a lifetime subscriber to take advantage. You can sign up on the day they have a piece of software you want.
I began my infatuation with them during the whole AppZapper blog spree. The basic premise was to get a certain number of bloggers to mention macZOT and they’d pass along an amazing piece of shareware to everyone who participated in the contest either by blogging or sending an email requesting the software.
After getting the AppZapper for free I was hooked. I check the site out daily to see what software they have available. This past week they had their second mysteryZOT. I didn’t get a chance to participate in the first one, and had $15.00 setting around I could waste.
I don’t try out a lot of miscellaneous shareware because I tend to stick to what I know and like. I thought the mysteryZOT would introduce me to some different shareware developers and if I didn’t like what I was given it was only $15.00. Typically a mysteryZOT ends in a day. This time around they were able to pack more bang for your buck and extended the promotion. A few people complained (about the extension of a day) but I don’t see their point. It was just an extra day. If you can’t stand that kind of suspense I don’t know how you make it through life. MysterZOT is like buying a lotto ticket however you win every time with the MysteryZOT.
Right now I am testing marsEdit and ecto to update my blog. Hopefully soon they will feature both marsEdit and ecto so I can grab a license at a discount.

i like to people watch where people complain
That’s how David Sedaris answered when an audience member asked him his favorite place to people watch.
Last night I was able to enter a world of the cleverly crafted David Sedaris where his self demeaning attitude makes you laugh but also think about implications. He read in Columbus last night in the Palace Theater to a sold out crowd.
He began the reading last night with a fable between a sheep and a crow. I was a little worried with the first story. I watched him on David Letterman reading one of his fables and I wasn’t very impressed. I was pleasantly surprised and disgusted at the same time. From the idea of a crow discussing birthing techniques with a sheep to the unfortunate encounter when the sheep starts to meditate. The audience was in hysterics with his stories and commentary as it continued throughout the evening.
In his second reading he was able to take you from skeleton shopping to ending up in a waiting room in only his under pants. The perfect dead pan comedic timing of asking friends if they saw anything fucked up while in the emergency room to the realization that a full blown skeleton is the better christmas gift (even if a baby skeleton could fit in a shoe box) kept the audience on its toes.
He ended his readings with a picturesque older ralph lauren couple sitting next to him on a flight from Denver to La Gaurdia. To a Cabey in NYC asking about his sexual proclivities.
“Can you believe this shit?”
“Well I’m not going to eat this shit!”
“Do you like to fuckey fuck David?”
“Do you like the dick David?”
I admit, it’s not the most clever introspective Sedaris that I am used to reading, but it made the audience cry in laughter. As we were all busy wiping our eyes he was cleverly weaving a slight social commentary into his story with the NYC cabbie. Fancy sport coats don’t mean a damn thing in being able to relate to people, it’s how often we’re able to Fuckey fuck that truly brings us all down to the same level.

~updated~ my lump……
Well, there’s been some great news in regards to the pea sized lump inside of my lip. It’s still there, and is scheduled to be removed with my wisdom teeth.
The dentist performed some routine tests and believes it is nothing more than an impacted gland. Of course it will still have a biopsy done to confirm but the dentist thinks there is nothing to worry about.
That’s been a major relief to know as well.
Now if I could just get my humps out of my head whenever i say my lump…..

Managerial Finance
I’ve never been truly satisfied with allowing myself to get anything an A- but with my Managerial Fiance I am quite happy to get a B.
Not a B+ or a B- but a B. The class is over and I don’t have to worry about it ever again. I did not admit defeat, however just realized that I wouldn’t be the student that got the A in the class.

MacZot!
The fun people over at MacZot! are trying to give away a free application today. If 259 bloggers mention this the program AppZapper will be given away free. The best part of this program is that it completely removes your application! It does not leave any orpahned files anywhere in your mac.

I remember trying out for the seventh grade cross country team. It was a very humid summer day. The popular kids stuck together and I was often left keeping up the tail end of the runs. I got discouraged and lasted just for one practice. My presence wasn’t missed and that ended my forte into sports.
I don’t know what would have happened if I stuck with it. If I would have been more comfortable with myself or would I have tried to fit in. Would scouting had been prevalent in my life or would I stuck with sports? Those are the questions I often ask myself when I think about becoming active again.
Those same feelings invade my thought process when I think of doing any other type of group sports again. Luckily running is a very individual sport and one that I can work on with others.
I have been training for about two months (give or take) for my first 5k on 4/1/06. I was running five times a week and working my way upto the 3.1 mile mark. Unfortunately last Monday my knee gave out and this past week I was trying to recuperate for the 5k on saturday.
I struggled with the idea of going in the morning. I didn’t get a lot of sleep and my knee was still bothering me a little. I woke up, took ibuprofen, got cleaned up and headed to the Arena District. I picked up my race packet which had my bibb and my t-shirt and waited on my friends to arrive. It was nerve wrecking standing there waiting, especially for the start. Luckily the wait wasn’t too long and we were off at 9:10.
The run its self wasn’t too bad, and it was amazing to see people along the side of the road cheering you on. I was able to get a mile to a mile and a half into it before the knee started bothering me. I had to slow down and walk a little through out the entire 5k but was able to finish in 41:34. I kept a 13:23 minute mile pace and would have been faster if I didn’t have to walk.
The next 5k is scheduled for the second weekend in May and the goal now is to not over train and be able to run completely through the path.
Once the pictures are posted I’ll snag a few and put them up.
